A Statistical Analysis of ∆ PA for EGRET - Detected AGNs

چکیده

A statistical analysis of position angle differences (∆PA) between smalland large-scale structures of EGRETdetected AGNs has been made. The results show that γ-ray quasars have the alignment of radio jets, while γ-ray BL Lac objects have large∆PA. This may contribute to a better understanding of different blazar types and of the AGN unification scheme.

A correlation analysis of flux ratios and the Doppler factor for EGRET AGN sources

We present a correlation analysis between the flux ratio of high-energy γ-ray emission to synchrotron emission and the Doppler factor for a sample of EGRET AGNs. The result favors a model that attributes the EGRET emission of AGNs to inverse-Compton scattering on photons external to the jet.

A Connection between Apparent Vlba Jet Speeds and Initial Active Galactic Nucleus Detections Made by the Fermi Gamma-ray Observatory

In its first three months of operations, the Fermi Gamma-Ray Observatory has detected approximately one quarter of the radio-flux-limited MOJAVE sample of bright flat-spectrum active galactic nuclei (AGNs) at energies above 100 MeV. We have investigated the apparent parsec-scale jet speeds of 26 MOJAVE AGNs measured by the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) that are in the LAT bright AGN sample (L...

Low-latitude Gamma-ray Sources: Correlations and Variability

A review of the main characteristics of low-latitude sources in the third EGRET catalog is presented. There are 75 unidentified gamma-ray sources detected by EGRET at |b| < 10◦. About a half of these sources are spatially correlated with potential galactic gamma-ray emitters such as supernova remnants, OB associations and early-type stars with very strong stellar winds. The other half is formed...

Contribution from unresolved discrete sources to the Extragalactic Gamma-Ray Background (EGRB)

The origin of the extragalactic gamma-ray background (EGRB) is still an open question, even after nearly forty years of its discovery. The emission could originate from either truly diffuse processes or from unresolved point sources. Although the majority of the 271 point sources detected by EGRET (Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope) are unidentified, of the identified sources, blazars ar...

Unidentified Egret Sources

The Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory was launched in early 1991 and deorbited in June, 2000. Between April 1991 and September 1995, the Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) detected 416 gamma-ray excesses with a significance of more than 3 σ above the diffuse background emission. After a careful analysis with a maximum-likelihood procedure, only 271 of these sources were included in th...
